Frequently asked questions
Halftone reproduces a continuous-tone photo using dots of varying size. Printing presses can only apply ink or not apply it, so tone is simulated by changing how much of each area the dots cover. Your eye blends them back into shading.
Increase the width to use more dots across the image. For a poster-sized print a higher dot count keeps fine features readable; for a retro comic-book look, keep the count low so the dots stay clearly visible.
Halftone depends entirely on tonal contrast. Use the Contrast slider to separate the light and dark areas, and Brightness to shift the overall level. Photos with a clear, well-lit subject convert best.
Yes. Download the PNG, which is exported at a larger cell size than the preview so it stays sharp in print. Halftone artwork works particularly well on posters and screen-printed designs.
