PNG, JPG or WebP — works best on a clear, well-lit photo

Turn a photograph into a hand-drawn-looking sketch. The pencil and charcoal styles use the classic colour-dodge technique that art software uses, which produces genuine soft shading rather than the hard mechanical outlines a simple edge filter gives.

Frequently asked questions

Pencil gives soft graphite shading. Charcoal is darker and higher contrast, like a heavier stick. Outline uses edge detection for clean line art with no shading. Blueprint renders white lines on technical drawing blue.

It controls the blur radius behind the shading. Low values pick up fine detail and produce a scratchy, sketchy look; high values give broad, smooth shading closer to a finished drawing. It only applies to the pencil and charcoal styles.

Turn up Intensity - it controls how dark the lines get while leaving the paper white. Photos with soft, even lighting have fewer edges to find, so a well-lit subject with clear contrast always sketches better.
